The Evolving Title Industry

The market is experiencing unprecedented changes. Due to these changes, businesses will have to pivot in order to keep up. Now more than ever it's important for Title providers to focus on growing while facing the problem of having less information than they have had in the past.

For the past several years Tax Search Now has been taking advantage of information that is provided virtually. Due to COVID-19 many municipalities have had to pivot as well, switching to online systems to minimize in person contact. At Tax Search Now we have been preparing for these changes and we are continuing to keep up with them on a day to day basis as our industry is currently in a transition phase. During this transition phase there may be information that is no longer available to the public. In order to remain profitable the industry must transition as well and we are here to help your business experience this pivot as smoothly as possible.

NYC DEP Changes

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has discontinued access to water department data after a court case that was finalized on May 22, 2020.  Due to this change, information is now limited to only account numbers and the current balance owed, if any.  Due dates, meter numbers and periods covered are no longer being made available. We will continue to keep you updated if we hear from DEP on any further changes.

In the meantime, we recommend having the homeowner provide their last water bill at closing.
